If I have any passions in life they would be punk music, skateboarding, and backpacking/travel. I've been getting more and more into travelling and backpacking over the past five or so years and I try to get at least one good long trip in each year. I have hiked the entire 2160 mile length of the Appalachian Trail, The 300+ mile Colorado Trail, most of the John Muir Trail in central California, as well as trekking in Ecuador, Nepal, and shorter trips elsewhere here in the states.
There's a great feeling of freedom in the sort of travelling I do. I prefer the self contained and self powered forms the most. Backpacking, bicycle touring, and I plan to get into some kayak touring sometime soon as well. Being able to pack up your gear one morning in a small backpack and heading out into the wilds with everything you need for the next week is a great feeling. You're only real concerns are how far do you feel like going that day and what are you going to eat for dinner. It truly is a simpler existence. Unfortunately it's never long enough and eventually you run out of money and have to come back to the real world. Those are the days I never look forward to.
